The two things we really needed to have a better result against the Rebels are better conditioning and staying with the plan. The plan was to be a
stick length away from a Rebel at all times. Every goal we gave up came when a Rebel was standing alone without a Lightning within 10 feet of him. Better conditioning will help us have the energy and the
speed to maintain that type of gap control. If you want to play hockey at the travel level, you need to be working on your game at home. Getting through the pre-game warm ups should be a breeze. They
should “warm you up”, not leave you breathless. Do the routine every day after school. Take 100 shots every day in the driveway. It takes that kind of passion about the game to suceed at this level.
On the positive side, when you followed the plan you played very well. You tied them up and putting a body on them really slowed up their game.
There were stretches in every period where you controlled the game and kept up great pressure on them. You outshot the Rebels 12-6 in the first period and outshot them overall for the game. Their AAA
player took advantage of every small error we made. He scored four consecutive goals. Keep your head up and lets get ready for the tournament!
